Looking for information on a Veronica Taylor-signed 1999 Pikachu promo
This is my first post and probably only post I’m going to make, so hopefully I’m posting this in the right place.
A few months ago, Veronica Taylor visited Sydney for Supernova, and I was lucky enough to get her to sign a personal card of mine — the 1999 Black Star Promo Pikachu from Pokémon: The First Movie.
At the time, I honestly just wanted to meet her and have a childhood card signed for my personal collection. After seeing other examples of her signed cards online, I thought it would be really cool to have one of my own.
During the signing, she asked me what I wanted her to write. I told her to write whatever she wanted, as I was mainly just appreciative of the opportunity to meet her and have a card from my childhood signed by someone who was such a huge part of it.
She ended up adding “I Choose You” alongside her signature.
I’ve seen this exact Pikachu promo with Veronica Taylor’s signature before, but I haven’t been able to find another example with this particular “I Choose You” inscription and her signature.
I’m planning on eventually sending the card to PSA for authentication/grading. I’m under no illusion that the card itself is going to be a PSA 10 — it’s my childhood card and has plenty of wear, I’d say maybe a PSA 7-8— but I’m mainly interested in documenting the autograph and inscription.
So I’m curious: has anyone here come across this exact card with Veronica Taylor’s signature and the “I Choose You” inscription before?
I also haven’t personally seen any examples of a Veronica Taylor auto 10 on this particular card with the inscription, although I may simply not be looking in the right places.
I’m wondering if anyone might have this exact same card with the same inscription, or any information to help me understand if this is possibly even the only known example?
I don’t plan on selling it, and I do have a long term plan to hopefully pass this down to my own children one day, but before I do that, I genuinely want to know what I’m currently holding. Is it possibly a piece of Pokemon history? Or is this just a card that has plenty of copies out there but just not publicly known?
