Flag Friday - Hawaii

Flag Friday - Hawaii

The redesign for Hawaii consists of a tricolor of red, yellow, and blue, charged with a green shield containing a kahili crossed by two paddles. The shield is flanked by traditional Hawaiian kapa patterns on either side, representing the rich culture of the Native Hawaiian people. Red represents the volcanoes, blue represents the Pacific Ocean, yellow represents the sunshine, and green represents the nature.

(The symbol can be seen on the historic coat of arms of the Kingdom of Hawaii.)

Capital City Saturday - Olympia, Washington

The design is inspired by u/LariatCreative's flag for Olympia. The flag uses green and blue as the colors of Washington and the 'O' for Olympia, with the stripes being a subtle allusion to state's namesake Washington's coat of arms and the three fish (adapted from the city seal) representing the three native tribes in the area: the Chehalis, the Nisqually, and the Squaxin Island tribes.

The flag is based on the ornamental symbols on a coat worn by the city's namesake, Kit Carson. The blue stripe represents the Carson River, and the triangles represent the Carson Range, and also an acknowledgement of the native Washoe tribe.

The basis of this design is the coat of arms on the existing flag, but with all elements re-rendered in a heraldic style and using only West Virginia's state colours of blue and old gold, with the counterchanged bordure retaining the reference to West Virginia's state flag.
