When did Bollywood music completely decline?

I think 2010-2012 was the last good era

2013 is not too bad too, but it’s when Rap music started becoming a bit popular with honey singh and badshah and when Arjit Singh got big with Aashiqui 2, everything started to sound the same after that. There were still a few gems like tum saath ho, ROY from 2015 or hasse toh passe, ek villain and mast magan from 2014 but the good songs were becoming lesser and lesser after 2012.

The decline started in 2013, but the quality completely fell down around 2016 when songs started becoming more remixed and Punjabi: Kala chasma, nachang saari raat, Kar Gayi Chull, High Heels, etc and we still haven’t recovered from this era and it’s been 10 years now….

The Neha Kakkarification of the industry needs to be over at this point. If the public can get tired of early-mid 80s Disco by the late 80s, why can’t they move on from the remix trend now as well? It’s almost the start of a new decade soon and there are still no signs of Bollywood recovering, it’s just sad honestly.

Is Ariana Grande a more definitive pop cultural figure of the 2010s or the 2020s?

Gen Z likes to call us cringe but their whole styling and fashion is just copying 2000s Millennial gaudiness

The late 90s-early 2000s was one of the best periods for music videos

If 2010s pop culture and music followed a trajectory from sunny, upbeat and colorful in the early years to increasingly bleak, drab and depressing by the latter half, then perhaps the 2020s will follow the opposite path

Every decade seems to go through its own cultural and musical cycles.

The first half of the 90s was generally darker, with the rise of grunge, R&B and gangsta rap, but the decade gradually became more bubbly and colorful towards the end with teen pop, boy bands, the spice girls, Hanson, Britney spears, and other similar acts.

The 80s followed a similar pattern. Its first few years still carried some of the darker and more subdued elements of the late 1970s and New Wave, but by the latter half of the decade, pop culture had become much more colorful and gaudy, with neon fashion, dance-pop, big hair.

The 60s also underwent a major transformation. The early part of the decade was still super formal and conservative, but by the late 60s, fashion and music had become much more colorful, casual, experimental, and influenced by hippie/psychedelia.

Because of these recurring patterns, I could see the 2020s following a similar trajectory. The early part of the decade was dominated by the pandemic, isolation, bedroom pop, lo-fi music and generally more introspective aesthetics. As we move toward the final years of the decade, I think there could be a shift toward brighter, more energetic and upbeat music and pop culture.

The pendulum might swing back again. If pop culture naturally moves between darker and lighter periods, the latter half of the 2020s could ultimately see the return of a much sunnier and more upbeat cultural atmosphere in contrast to the covid/sad girl music early years of the decade.
