How much money does one actually need ?

I am stunned to see people being able to retire early with humongous corpus - over 5-10-15 cr.

And here I am striving to make ends meet. I might be able to reach that kind of corpus if I work extremely hard for the next 15-20 years. Before someone says “comparison is a thief of joy”, let me be clear - I am neither dying to live their lives nor is my case of sour grapes.

But I am a human being after all and can’t just ignore all these numbers I keep seeing on Reddit and YouTube. Can’t stop wondering what does a reasonably good life look like ? How much money does one need to live such a life ? I understand there might not be one answer that fits everyone, but still there must be one number that satisfies the majority, right ? Assuming too poor or too wealthy are outliers, how do you define what is enough ?

What do folks that achieve such numbers do in real life differently and what are the key takeaways for someone who is just starting their investing journey ? Would appreciate any insights coming from experience.

Loans after FIRE ?

I have achieved FI and planning on RE in a couple years. I have saved enough to buy a house as well as a car. I can make these purchases on the day I RE. But now I am thinking of taking home loan and car loan instead to fund these goals and put that money into equity for compounding.

Is there a benefit of taking loan over paying these huge amounts in one go ? How difficult is it to get loans once you have quit job ? Anyone tried this ?

Time to stop investing in India ?

INR is depreciating badly against the USD for decades now - USD touched 96 INR today! A dumb patriot like me kept investing in Indian stocks for the last 5 years (that’s when I started investing in stocks) hoping that things will change now that we have a stable government.

But now that I have a better understanding of economics and geopolitics feels like I was dumb to not diversify my portfolio geographically!

Indian stock market accounts for 4% of the global market! Investing anymore than 4% of your portfolio in Indian markets means your wealth is concentrated accompanying with certain risks!

Little to no innovation - India yet again missed a major wave - earlier it was oil, then computers and now AI! Innovation is what attracts money to the stock markets and Indian companies are miserably lagging behind in this aspect compared to others!

Most of our gdp comes from Services industry which is set to be disrupted by AI. Government is failing in creating jobs, preventing climate change, providing safety for women, improving the education system, ease of doing business.

I may seem pessimistic towards India - I am not. Just trying to look at my investments logically. And it doesn’t make sense to invest in India anymore!
