What are your predictions for the Kamala reboot?

What are your predictions for the Kamala reboot?

Someone posted this the other day but deleted the thread (lame).

To me, is obvious she’s going to run again. Whether she’ll get establishment backing and win are entirely different questions.

I think she’ll not get far, like her first run, but at least make it past a couple states this time. She’ll manage to sink another candidate, either Buttigieg or Newsom. “That little girl was me” was actually pretty damaging for Biden among the primary electorate.

Are Standardized Tests Biased Against Students Who Don’t Give a Shit? (The Onion 2010)

“There’s a big social stigma in this country against lazy, self-centered assholes.” Wow we’ve come such a long way in 15 years ❤️

“You’re so close to X” shouldn’t be the main selling point for a city. It’s like saying, “The best thing about this place is that you can drive somewhere else.”

I put up with Denver for years (enough has been written about it on this sub). A lot of people, especially those who’ve lived elsewhere, will admit it’s extremely mediocre but then cope “but it’s so close to the mountains!”

On a day to day basis, it really doesn’t make that a difference. Plus in Denver’s case the closeness is a bit exaggerated since you’re really around 30-45 mins away from the foot of the Rockies and then have to sit in miserable I-70 traffic if you want to go further.

People will also defend pretty crappy parts of California on this basis. No, I don’t want to live in Fresno even if it is only an hour from Yosemite.

Are we going to get another Big 3 auto bailout?

You could argue the Biden tariffs on Chinese EVs already constitute one. Slotkin wants to go further and outright ban Chinese vehicles entirely.

Similar to the late 2000s, GM and Ford are pumping out tons of SUVs with bad fuel economy right as gas prices are spiking. New pickup trucks are pretty much novelty items. These vehicles have filled the dealer lots around me to the brim.

They lost a ton of money on EVs. Of course, they screwed this up right out of the gate by making huge impractical and expensive SUVs and trucks with horrible range. Of course, your average large SUV/truck buyer has no interest in going electric.

The fact that the CEO of Honda said “We have no chance” regarding Chinese EVs gives me no zero hope for the American dinosaurs.

Optically, I think another auto bailout would be very unpopular this time around (doesn’t mean it won’t happen). I don’t think consumers are willing to continue paying $50K in average for a new car to “save jobs” in one specific sector while everyone else is at the mercy of AI. Chrysler is now Stellantis and they’re arguably not even an American company anymore. That really doesn’t help the case.

For what it’s worth, I think the original ‘08 bailouts were bad too.

I remember watching this as a teenager. Pretty eye-opening for me since I was raised by arugula-eating elitist liberal city slickers.

“Eat several small meals and snacks throughout the day to help with weight loss” was some of the worst fucking advice of all time

I know Doctors don’t recommend this anymore but insane that they ever did.

I absolutely despise “luxury” vinyl flooring

Going on a rant. Why is this crap in every new home and apartment?

  1. More of a knock on people’s taste than the product itself - everyone chooses a cold super-fake grey. It absolutely sucks the life out of a home.

  2. It’s called “luxury” vinyl plank. It’s PVC plastic. How can anyone consider that luxurious?

  3. There are a limited number of prints in each box of planks. A lot of installers don’t bother to shuffle them so you get a weird repeating pattern. Even if you do shuffle, it’s often still noticeable.

  4. The planks have grooves in them. Real hardwood is almost completely smooth. Imagine all the dirt and germs getting trapped in those planks.

  5. I’ve heard people say they need LVP because they “have kids.” I grew up in a house with hardwood floors and my mom just taught me to clean up any spills quickly and it was fine??? Do you let your kids dump a gallon of Kool-Aid on the floor and just leave it sitting there?

  6. It lasts 10-25 years. Real hardwood floors can be refinished and last over a century. People complain about the environmental impact of plastic/microplastics and then go out and buy essentially disposable flooring that off-gasses.

  7. “Some of these LVP products are so good, you can’t tell the difference between them and real hardwood!” Honey, you ain’t fooling anyone.

The only scenario I think LVP is acceptable is if you use it in a basement prone to moisture/flooding and you choose a warm color with a decent number of prints.

Now, I’m thinking of the scene in Blade Runner 2049 where K goes to a pawn shop with a tiny wooden horse and the dealer tells him he’s rich since he has real wood.

When I was in HS, my crazy ass conservative neighbor was pro-choice because he thought the Democrats would abort themselves into extinction

Not sure why I’ve been thinking about this lately.

Anyone notice how all the online technocrats/libs have gotten real quiet about ranked choice voting since the Maine primary?

A lot of my college friends watched the CGP Grey video on “first-past-the-post” system back in the day and were convinced it was the root of all evil.

A lot of advocates seemed to have magical thinking that just adopting RCV would solve the toxic US political environment.

EDIT: it just seems these people thought that RCV would lead to a thousand year reign for Pete Buttigieg and equivalent lmao
