First, this isn’t an easy post for me to make. This sounds strange but there is a social media influencer in my OCIA class. It’s hugely distracting. She is very self-absorbed and to me, fake. All eyes MUST be on her at all times and it’s just odd. People flock to this woman due to her status and also wealth. Social media makes it worse, I have requested to follow a few people but they have ignored my requests but I see them commenting on this woman’s posts how awesome she is. At this point I try to avoid the times she goes to mass so I don’t need to deal with it. She finished OCIA and I need to continue until the spring, but I know I will need to interact here and there with her. Do I continue this? It’s become very difficult for me and just my enthusiasm for the church has been waning due to this. Do I switch parishes and look to a different group and church? I pretty much do like this church and don’t want to let her ruin it for me but so far it’s been really hard.
