King Willem-Alexander receives the research results into his family’s role in the Dutch colonial history
The King commissioned and paid for the research in 2022. The research was done by 60 researchers who have now published five books about the results.
In summary: the Dutch royal family was fully supportive of the colonial policies up until the rule of Queen Juliana and greatly profited from them. The royal family did however barely seem to influence colonial policies (both in the period of the Dutch Republic, as in that of the Kingdom), only King Willem I had any real influence.
The King had already apologized for his family’s role in 2023, he fully accepts the current findings and has expressed that he sees this not as the conclusion but as an encouragement to deliver a positive contribution to the present and future.
