TIL Kwan has the 4th highest OBP on the team despite slumping in BA. (.328)

TIL Kwan has the 4th highest OBP on the team despite slumping in BA. (.328)

Edit: Im dumb. It's 4th in "qualified hitters". My mistake.

Kwan's walks yesterday got me curious so I looked up his OBP and hes 4th highest on the team? Just something to keep in mind even if he is in a hitting slump.

Edit: Im dumb, hes just 4th in players who have enough at bats to be ranked officially. Still, hes higher than Manzo' Angel, & Hedges despite hitting much worse than them.

  1. Rocchio (.375 - 14th in AL)

  2. JRam (.369 - 18th in AL)

  3. DeLauter (.362 - 21st in AL)

  4. Kwan (.328 - 38th in AL)

Is gas really that big of a cost relative to other costs? (Genuine question considering prices are rising)

Edit: Comments suggests that gas itself is big, but other travel-related things are much bigger.

Not sure if there are behind-the-scenes staff on this sub, but with gas prices climbing a dollar in the last few months (your vote matters) I wanted to do some math. I'd always assumed gas was the most expensive part of tour, and while it's still a lot of money im curious how it's compared to other operating costs.

  • Let's say a tour is 10,000 miles
  • Diesel vehicles are usually 5-10 mpg, but for our purposes let's say 7.14 mpg.
  • 10000 ÷ 7.14 = ~1,400 gallons of gas for the tour.
  • 1,400 gallons x $5.65 per gallon of diesel = ...$7,910.00 per vehicle for gas costs

So basically, if your fees are $5,000 then 10 members' fees can probably cover the gas money for 5-6 large vehicles. That's ~6% of the fees collected from members in a full corps. A large chunk, but weirdly not as big as I thought it would be. And we're not mentioning things like drivers, repairs, upkeep, etc.

Im assuming a lot more money goes into things like staff, food, musuc/design, but im curious what the biggest cost actually is. Anyone have any inside info?
