I no longer follow buddhism

I’m a Dalit, and I grew up in an environment where everyone around me followed Buddhism. which I respect. But over time, I started noticing something that didn’t sit right with me.

From what I understand, Buddha himself rejected the idea of a god and focused more on personal understanding and ending suffering. Yet today, many people treat him almost like a deity, with rituals, prayers, and recitations. It feels like the same structure that exists in other religions, just with a different name.

I personally identify as an atheist, which to me means not following any religion at all. So it’s confusing to see a philosophy that questioned religious ideas turn into a religion itself. Sometimes it feels like people didn’t really follow what Buddha was trying to teach, but instead built a system around him anyway.

I don’t have anything against people who practice it, but I struggle to relate to things like worship, chanting, or treating Buddha as a divine figure. It just doesn’t align with how I see things.
