Reduced facilities - membership cancellation?
I started my 12-month David Lloyd gym membership in Feb. Since mid May, they closed the swimming pool for maintenance. There is no timeline for when it will return. I use the gym primarily for this swimming pool. They've offered 50% discount for June, and 25% for every month thereafter until the pool is back.
When I complained and asked for a membership cancellation, they offered a "complimentary freeze". I pointed out that their contract says you can end your membership early if they significantly reduce the facilities at your club. They responded that it is a 'temporary' closure, not a permanent one, so that clause doesn't stand. I argue an indefinite closure is significant and not a standard temporary closure.
I don't really want the freeze - it just extends my 12-month contract end date with them, and means I have to pay a premium for short-term pool membership elsewhere for an unknown period of time.
Has anyone else had experience with this, and been successful with ending their membership early due to reduced facilities?
Thanks! :)
