Can I travel from Italy to the UK and come back while waiting for my permesso di soggiorno?
Hi everyone,
I am an Indian national currently in Italy on a Research Type D visa. I arrived in Italy in April for my research position, and my visa is still valid.
I need to travel to London, UK for my graduation, but my permesso di soggiorno card has not arrived yet. I am in the process of applying/receiving it, but I do not physically have the card yet.
My question is: can I leave Italy, travel to the UK, and then re-enter Italy using my valid Research D visa while I am still waiting for my permesso di soggiorno?
Would it be okay if I carry my passport, valid Italian D visa, permesso application receipt/ricevuta if available, and my research/hosting agreement documents?
Also, should I avoid Schengen layovers and take a direct flight back to Italy from the UK?
Any advice from people who have travelled in a similar situation would be really helpful.
