How do you actually get started in the trades?

I recently finished my Level 1 Cabinetmaking program and Im trying to get my foot in the door and start working in the trade in/around Nelson

Ive been applying to different places, but I keep running into the same problem. A lot of the jobs are asking for 3 -4 years of experience. I completely understand wanting someone experienced but its honestly frustrating because Im not sure how Im supposed to get that experience if nobody is willing to give me a chance in the first place.

Im not expecting to walk into a shop and start building cabinets on my own. Im totally fine starting with basic work, cleaning, material handling, helping out wherever Im needed and learning from the people around me. Im reliable and genuinely want to learn the trade and get better at it.

For anyone in Nelson or the surrounding area who works in cabinetmaking, carpentry, or woodworking, how did you get your first job? Did you just keep applying until someone gave you a chance?

Also, if you know of any local shops that might be open to taking on someone with Level 1 training and not much industry experience, I’d really appreciate any suggestions.

Anyway, just venting a little because the whole “need experience to get experience” thing is getting frustrating😅
