I have a hardy Opuntia (Opuntia fragilis (debreczyi) v. denuda) that has put out a new layer of pads/heads this spring. Each is stipped with these things -- soft, but neither really leaves nor spines. Can anybody educate me as to what these are? Are they temporary structures?
Just recently got a Monanthes muralis, which is cute. It very quickly went into flower mode, and the flowers are hilarious -- they look like what's left of most flowers after a fierce wind storm! 🤣
Was startled when these arrived with a huge, long tangle of roots, so I potted them tall, and they appear to be super happy about it! (Flowering again, nine months later!)
