Private pitching lessons and a speed gun for 8U rec ball

Am I the only one who puts this stuff on the same level with 6 year old beauty pageants? I’m sure it isn’t always the case (all absolutes are wrong, including this one) but I get the sense that most kids like this have parents who are trying to work through issues in their own lives through their kid. Get a therapist and let your kids play baseball. Saw a parent at a kids (8U) practice set up an iPad and a radar gun.

9U stud catcher struggle to throw

I’ve got a 9U catcher who is an absolute wall. Small kid but gets his glove to the ball like nothing else. His stance is good, his footwork is ok but his hand eye is off the charts. We know how pitching looks at 9U and he is not letting balls pass him. He’s serious minded, already talking to his pitchers like they’re his pitchers. He’s making adjustments to help them but cannot throw the ball to second without a rainbow that would make a Lisa Frank folder jealous. Any ideas to help him strengthen his throw without stressing him? He loves the game and wants to improve but I think he’s waiting for someone to give him drills or something to figure it out. He throws well in catch play, decent distance at speed but sometimes palms the ball and shotpits it. Any ideas?

First, this is 10U rec ball but these boys really care about who gets the game ball. I try my best to find a game where each kid stands out and gets a game ball. My difficulty is when it’s my kid. I don’t want anyone to feel like I’m playing favorites. Tonight he had a rockstar game. Playing catcher he was a wall. He was talking to his pitchers, giving them what they needed. Had 2 tag outs at the plate, didn’t have his best day at bat but got on. I asked the other coaches and they looked at me like I was crazy telling me to give it to my kid. I asked them to give the post game breakdown and had them give him the ball. Anyone else struggle with balance with your own kid?

Anyone else who started as an assistant and went on to volunteer as a manager able to point at the manager who made your mind up for you? 10U rec manager ignored the league email about 2 ineligible pitchers (coming off 1 day rest) and the other team called them out. Problem is I showed him the email that he was also sent (email went out yesterday, I pointed it out an hour before game time). League got involved, coach wanted to argue…game was delayed, it was a circus but it pretty much decided for me I’m managing in the fall. It was way past unprofessional for the kids to see their coach arguing w league staff and the umpires. Decision was made and that should have been it. Take the argument after the game and one on one. Not what I’m trying to teach these kids. Rant over.
