Back 9 yips - help
I’ve been playing golf since October 2025, and finally feel like I am getting closer to breaking 90.
88 is my PB recently, but that was a one off.
I have been playing as conservatively as possible, aiming for “bogey golf” and 1 par in order to break 90 consistently; never going for hero shots, almost always laying up, playing sensibly.
My scorecard from this morning is very typical of what I get recently. A fantastic (for me) front 9 shooting 42, then it all goes south on the back 9.
The course was no more difficult on the back 9, I just start duffing / fatting / slicing shots that I never done once on the front 9.
I feel like the most likely cause is being aware I am on target for breaking 90, then I get bad swing thoughts, almost as if I start thinking “you are going to duff this!” on the back swing ..
Any advice?
