Modern razor, Vintage gear 10-5-26

Modern razor, Vintage gear 10-5-26

Razor: Rex Konsul on 2.5

Blade: Gillette permasharp 2nd shave

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap: Stirling barbershop in vintage old spice mug

Splash: Blended aqua velva(modern and 1960s at 50/50 blend) in vintage decanter

Post balm: Stirling glacial unscented

Morning folks, today I returned somewhat to the normal razor rotation I have with using one of my 5 modern razors on Mondays. Decided the Konsul because even though I don't post every shave as I used to, the 3 REX razors are still regularly in rotation. In fact, the REX I've been using the most lately has been the envoy. Mainly because it was the newest in the den.

Anyhow, the usual 3 passes without any issues. I'm really enjoying the scent of Stirling barbershop and rotating through my drugstore aftershaves, I know I've been mainly posting with aqua velva but I've been using Pinaud and skin bracer too.

Happy Monday all and as always, have a good day and great shaves!😎

Spice and Tech 9-16-26

Razor: NDC post-war ball end tech

Blade: Gillette permasharp

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap-splash-EDT: Stirling Spice

Post balm: Stirling unscented

First shave of the work week, I'm not used to the heft of the ball end handle anymore. The strange thing about the ball end handles is I'm pretty sure they were the only milled solid brass handle Gillette made for their razors. So, it makes them bottom heavy unless you adjust where you hold it.

Still, easy enough to adjust to and had a great shave.

Happy Wednesday everyone, have a good day and a great shave!

Contract tech Tuesday

Razor: WW2 contract tech with a post war nickel topcap

Blade: Gillette Nacet 2nd shave

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap-splash-EDT: Stirling bay rum

Post balm: Stirling unscented

Testing out Nacet again and, I think I had a few bad blades in the batch because this one and the one before have been great unlike the 4 before them. Could it be technique adjustment? Possibly but I'm not certain of that.

I'm noticing that I'm starting to do more themed shaves lately, a WWII contract tech and bay rum? Very fitting pairing.

Usual 3 passes without issues and total BBS, love when my shaves stay consistent as they have been.

Have a good Tuesday and great shaves y'all!

Old and modern Monday

Razor: Supply V1 with #2 plate

Blade: Chinese Schick injector blade

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap-splash-EDT: Stirling Spice

Post balm: Stirling unscented

Was in the den today about to reach for my Rex Ambassador when I gave a glance at my razor+brush stand and saw the supply. Thought about how I've kinda ignored it lately along with my other injector razors and I decided to use it instead.

Man oh man, I forgot how easy this razor is for me. It's so natural it's almost kinda boring lol, it just works. No having to mind angle or pressure because injector razors are muscle memory for me.

3 passes going 1 WTG 2 ATG and 3 ATG buffing pass and I'm smooth shaven with 0 irritation or nicks.

Stirling performing great as always and I'm so glad I got a tub of Stirling Spice. Bay rum will always be my #1 from Stirling but Spice is always going to be #2 and nothing else will come close to these 2 scents in rank for me.

Happy Monday all, hope the start of your week goes well.

[WTB] Rex envoy with stand

If you have an envoy and stand that you are thinking of selling off, I'm interested in one. Either factory finish or polished is fine with me.

The knack SOTD 8/19/26

Razor: 1968 Gillette Knack

Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock permasharp stainless

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap-splash-EDT: Stirling Spice

Post balm: Stirling unscented

Great way to start the first day of going to work for the week. I don't know why I stopped using the Knack because, I always get a good shave from it and it's just obscure enough that I SHOULD want to shave with it to enjoy it. It's the only TTO razor I own that has a plastic handle which makes the balance head heavy, just the way I like it.

3 passes, tiny nick on mustache area but otherwise flawless. Happy Wednesday everyone

8/18/26

Razor: Rex Konsul on 3

Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock permasharp stainless

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap-splash-EDT: Stirling bay rum

Post balm: Stirling unscented

Recently acquired razors translates to the razor rotation going out the window, been experimenting with my new "toy" and it's been fun.

This is the polished version and I think I like the polished Rex razor a tiny bit more than the factory finish, it's obviously not enough of a difference in performance but just about looks. Makes the Rex razors look more refined vs the utilitarian look of the factory finish.

3 pass shave, Stirling bay rum, what's REALLY more to say?😌 I suppose I could say, I'm so glad I discovered traditional shaving in 2017 and there's no way I'm ever going back to carts and barbasol foam.

Happy shaves all, and have a great day.

Modern Monday 8/17/26

Razor: Rex Konsul on 2.5

Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock permasharp stainless

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap-splash: A&E kaizen

My phone was plugged in but the plug wasn't fully in the socket last night so, I accidentally slept in this morning. Decided that for this modern Monday I'd use a modern scent and kaizen is my only one in the den.

Sometimes I forget just how much of a leap in slickness AND cushion A&E kaizen base is compared to Stirling.

Make no mistake I love Stirling and almost exclusively use their soaps but Kaizen and any soap with Kaizen or K2E base is just going to explode with cushy, slick lather that has better glide and better residual slickness than Stirling.

3 pass shave went off without a hitch AND I'm irritation free unlike the last time I used the Konsul. Which, was totally my own fault because I was shaving with a blade I should have put in the bank after the last shave I did with it.

Happy Monday all, and have a great start to your week!

Schick and margaritas Sunday

Razor: schick Krona

Blade: BIC Chrome platinum

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap-splash: margaritas in the arctic

Post balm: Stirling glacial unscented

Another easy shave to start the last day of the work week. I'm really enjoying the daily morning shaves lately, I mean I've always enjoyed them but the past few days have been very enjoyable in a way they weren't lately. I'm learning to slow down and enjoy the routine again VS being on autopilot, makes me appreciate the scents and the process again.

Happy Sunday everyone and have a good week!

Fatboy Friday 8/14/26

Razor: 1960 Gillette adjustable "fatboy"

Blade: BIC Chrome platinum

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap-splash-EDT: Stirling bay rum

Post balm: Stirling unscented

Wonderful shave this fatboy Friday, been experimenting with BIC again being how my technique has improved since the last time I tried them out.

They seem to be sharp and more comfortable than I remembered them being, this is also the blades 2nd or 3rd shave so any initial "bite" has smoothed out now.

Bay rum from Stirling will be in my shave den for as long as Stirling still makes it. It was actually the first artisan soap and splash set I ever tried after using only VDH, lathering shave cream or proraso when first starting out.

Happy Friday everyone and good shaves to y'all.

GSB test 7/27/26

Razor: 1958 Gillette TV special

Blade: Gillette silver blue

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap: A&E Kaizen

Post shave: Kaizen "skin food" splash

Today was the day that I put the 2 Gillette Silver Blue blades, head-to-head. I wanted to test to see if the blades were actually different or, if it was something on my part.

So I used ariana and evans kaizen, because it has great slickness and cushion, so that way that wouldn't be a factor in today's shave. I did a couple strokes with each blade one right after the other, and I can see now they're the exact same blade.

It must have been the last time I used a GSB either my prep or lather wasn't up to snuff because today, 3 pass shave it a touch-up in 2 spots is having my face feel as smooth as feather and permasharp do, and no tugging during the shave.

Kaizen is a soap that I LOVE the scent and performance of. I kinda want to get more A&E soaps but, I already have 4 sets of soap and spash with a plan to get barbershop and electric sheep from Stirling in about a month(I need 2 soaps that I can use my drugstore aftershaves with without too much scent clash). Happy shaves folks and have a good start to the week!

What will be the our generations "golden age" razors and products?

I've been looking at all my vintage razors, thinking about the ones people agree are from the peak time of safety razor production of the 20th century.

It got me to thinking, what will be the stuff future generations will hunt and pine for from the early times to now of the wetshaving revival?

I know obviously the expensive razors and brushes but, what do you suppose of the standard products us enthusiasts and regular shavers have brought back?

Just thought this would be fun to speculate about as a community

Is anyone else noticing differences in new blades?

I've noticed that blades that I've purchased recently seem to be not as good as what I've used in the past. I remember Nacet was great for me, Gillette silver blue was great and many others but now it seems like the new bulk blades I've purchased are completely different.

I mean nacet dosen't feel sharp anymore and leaves stubble, also causing serious irritation, a brand new Gillette silver blue is leaving stubble today for me, feather blades seem to work fine still but now I'm worried about my new Gillette permasharp blades being different too.

Is anyone else experiencing something like this? or is this issue because of me?

Tech Tuesday 7/7/26

Razor: NDC fat handle tech

Blade: 1968 Gillette super Stainless

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap and splash: Stirling Spice

Balms: Stirling unscented

Started shaving on Tuesdays again because I figured out that my irritation wasn't from shaving 7 days straight, but from trying to squeeze an extra shave out of a blade that should be discarded.

3 pass shave and this vintage blade actually isn't too bad, not my absolute favorite but works well and I'll definitely be using them on occasion like my vintage platinum plus blades. I got the smallest nick on my mustache area but other than that it's another BBS shave in the book.

Have a good Tuesday folks and have a good shave too!

My blade storage solution

Picked up this vintage perfume cabinet a while back, used it for a couple different things over the past year and finally decided it's best for bulk blade storage.

Now it's not permanently organized because I just bought another 300 blades and I'll have to organize them in the most logical way after I get them. But, it's definitely a new highlight of my shave den.

Super-speed Saturday

Razor: NDC Super-Speed

Blade: 7 o'clock permasharp stainless

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap: Stirling samples stacked

Splash: Skin Bracer

Balm: Nivea cooling

Another easy shave today, 3 passes with only a tiny nick on the neck. No one in my family ever used skin bracer that I know of which is a shame because even though it's kinda sweet smelling, I still think it's a masculine scent that works great to this day. I love how I found this bottle locally in Hopkins and it's honestly the only reason why I started using Skin Bracer in the first place.

Happy Saturday everyone.

Sinatralennon inspired

Razor: 1960 Gillette "fatboy" adjustable

Blade: Gillette 7 o'clock permasharp stainless

Brush: WCS synthetic

Soap and splash: margaritas in the arctic

Post balm: Nivea cooling

Was looking in through my aftershaves to pair with the mug full of samples and remembered that I have MITA and since it was "fatboy" Friday in my Razor rotation I figured I'd do a shave that's synonymous with SinatraLennon. 3 pass shave as normal and man do I like some brighter, fruit scents once in a while to mix it up. I remember having this as a sample and being refreshing scent and menthol wise.

Happy Friday shaves everyone and have a good weekend.
