I built a site to make it easier to contact your local MP ( way easier )
I've been building this for a little while and the mods have kindly given me permission to post it here.
I realised that it's actually surprisingly difficult to answer a pretty basic question:
Who is my local MP, what do they care about, and what are they actually pushing for?
So I built Mail Your MP.
You put in your postcode and it shows you your local representatives and the issues they're associated with. If there's something you care about, you can then write to them directly.
And rather than just sending another email into the void, you can have the letter physically printed and posted to them.
It's $5 to send a letter. The money covers the cost of getting the physical letter sent, with anything left over going towards running and maintaining the site.
I'm not trying to push a particular political position. The site is intended to be politically neutral. I just want to make it easier for people to actually contact their representatives and have their say.
A couple of boring-but-important things:
- The MP information comes from public sources.
- I collect the information needed to process and send a letter, while trying to keep the amount of data stored to a minimum.
- I'm an independent developer and built the whole thing myself.
- r/OpenAussie isn't affiliated with the site and doesn't receive anything from it.
Anyway, I'd genuinely love some feedback.
Is this useful? Is there something obvious I've missed? Is there a better way this could work?
Tear it apart. 😄
