What to expect from barium swallow test?
Hi guys, I am getting a barium swallow test in 3 days and I'm SO scared. I keep seeing scary stories of bad experiences people had. My swallowing issues are the opposite of most people I see, where I am fine with solid food but really struggle with liquids. And I have to drink everything in small sips otherwise I get very n. And also I have to fast and everything feels worse on an empty stomach for me. I just don't see a world in which it doesn't make me g a lot and I can't deal with any of the associated sensations with drinking a lot of liquid! I don't know if i can deal with the fizzy liquid and no burping thing either. But I know that like the best thing is for me to experience all the worst symptoms so they can see it on the test. But I'm not comfortable at all, and I'm autistic but no one believes I am so they are just rude to me when I'm asking extra questions. Does anyone have a neutral experience or a bad experience that they got through okay? Or a good one even? What happens in the test if you tell them you have emetophobia? Do they let you take n meds beforehand?
