Another G-class tram in the wild

Another G-class tram in the wild

I was just walking along Elizabeth Street in the CBD and saw this G-class tram heading north, so I took a pic. I assumed it was tram 7006, but it turned out to be 7009! Good to see more of the Gs on the streets, though I assume this one is currently being used for driver training rather than passenger service.

G-class tram from above

I managed to snap this nice shot of a G-class tram on Sunday arvo, from my apartment on Elizabeth Street. I happened to glance out of the window and saw it passing on the way south to the terminus at Flinders Street. It wasn't registering on Tram Tracker, so I just waited a few minutes until it returned northward. Good looking vehicle! Can't wait till we have more running on Elizabeth Street, the boost to accessible services is much needed in that corridor.

G-class tram, Day 2

About 11.30am today we were sitting in a cafe when I realised the first operational G-class tram was heading our direction on route 59 (thanks TramTracker). So we nipped up to the Queen Vic Market to meet it, then caught it back to the CBD.

It was quite crowded (90% normal passengers, 10% gunzels at a guess), so it was hard to have a good look at the layout. There seems to be a lot of low-level seating though, and I like the timber touches on the seats. The tram seemed to be running very smoothly too.

Great to see it; my wife was particularly keen as her mobility is limited. We need a lot more low-floor trams along Elizabeth Street. We live on the street, and she often has to wait quite a while for a low-floor to come along.

Freo cafe with table service

On my latest visit to Freo from Melbourne I was so delighted to find a café with table service that I thought I'd share it here (I have no connection with the business). It's called Good Things now, but years ago was The Attic. When it was The Attic it didn't offer table service, and as most of the seating is upstairs it meant you had to head down the stairs if you wanted to order a second coffee. This is much better. Great chilli eggs too. Also an interesting brick floor.
