I’ve always felt American, even though I wasn’t born in the US. Will I ever truly be seen as one?

I’m a 30-year-old male, born and raised in Eastern Europe. Growing up, I never felt like I belonged in my home country. For as long as I can remember, I’ve felt American at heart.
Almost five years ago, I moved to the US alone. I love living here and genuinely feel at home. But I have a strong accent, and people sometimes assume I just arrived.
I feel caught between two worlds: I don’t identify with the country I came from, yet I worry I’ll never be fully accepted here.
Do Americans see someone like me as American, or will my accent always make me seem like an outsider?
