Questions about a sign i’ve acquired
Got this sign this weekend at a thrift for $200, got it hanging on a tap rated for 75lbs. I know little to nothing about neon signs but I assume this one’s pretty old. There’s a pretty decently loud buzzing coming from it(which I know is normal to some aspect but it’s pretty damn loud) the transformer also gets reeeeaaaalllyyyy hot, like I could feel the heat coming from the sign standing next to it after having it plugged in for an hour or so. Pretty much my questions are: A. Should it be good on that tap or would yall recommend a second one in parallel? I’d say she weighs maybe a little over 40-50lbs but i’m no scale. B. What kinda condition is she in? There’s also some cracking on the plastic or whatever casing is surrounding the tubes(the tubes themselves seem fine) Am I gonna have to bite the bullet and have it repaired? C. If that’s not the case, should I be worried about the heat coming from the transformer? That thing is pretty damn hot right up against my wall i’m a little worried about the safety of my house. I managed to get some extra pics of the cracks in the plastic on the tubes and of the transformer with the manufacturer sticker with its’ model # and all that jazz but reddit won’t allow me to attach a photo to a video so i’ll see if I can’t add them below.
