Re-using head bolts?
I’ve been rebuilding a ‘92 manual 2 door for a friend. The original engine had a burned exhaust valve, so I machined the head, replaced and re-lapped the valves, installed new head gaskets, and re-installed the head using new head bolts. It ran for about 15 minutes before the camshaft seized. Very disappointing. I must have missed the assembly line, or had a blocked oil channel, either way frustrating. I have a new head on the way, but I wonder if I can re-use the head bolts. Do steel bolts in an aluminum block stretch? The installation instructions were much less rigorous than I’m accustomed to (having worked on Subarus and BMWs), so I’m tempted to just re-use them, but I don’t know if I’m being foolish.
