This is what being a “Dimagi Naxal” looks like. Because if you support this ideology, you cannot pretend you are merely being “anti-establishment.” You are endorsing a politics of chaos, anarchy and contempt for constitution.

Then PM Indira Gandhi deployed IAF fighter jets to bomb our own people in Mizoram, killing many.1966 Aizawl Air Strikes: India Had to Defeat the Insurgency — But Did It Have to Bomb Aizawl?

In 1959, the Mizo Hills faced the Mautam famine, caused by bamboo flowering and a rat population surge. Many Mizos felt relief efforts from Assam and the Centre were inadequate.

This led to the Mizo National Famine Front, which Laldenga later turned into the Mizo National Front (MNF) in 1961, eventually pushing for an independent “Greater Mizoram.”

On 28 February 1966, the MNF launched Operation Jericho, attacking government installations and briefly taking control of parts of the region, including Aizawl, and declaring independence. Indian army had to defend

When ground forces struggled, the Indian Air Force intervened with two squadrons:

• 29 Squadron (Ouragan/Toofani)

• 14 Squadron (Hawker Hunters)

From 5 March 1966, they used cannon fire and rockets on identified targets during intense fighting.

Reports describe fires in Aizawl, civilian displacement, and lasting trauma. It remains one of the most controversial internal security operations in India’s history.

Importantly, the strikes did not end the insurgency, which continued for two more decades.
