What fresh hell is this?
Gallstones suck - I know you all know this - but medical professionals actually leave you with a ticking time-bomb in your body and you have no idea when it might go off!
Last Saturday, out of no where I had severe pain in my abdomen, I honestly thought it was indigestion and it would just got. Saturday night when I couldn’t bear it any longer I went to A&E where I was diagnosed with gallstones.
They booked me an ultrasound for Monday morning and also booked me into the surgical reviving unit to be assessed to see if I needed urgent surgery. This is the NHS.
My ultrasound showed gallstones but no inflammation so I was sent home and told to follow a low fat diet and they would book me a clinic appointment to discuss the surgery. My clinic appointment is in 5 weeks time. I was told to phone them if I get symptoms of a blockage but that was it.
I’ve been fine all week and then today after lunch the pain started again, my lunch was like 6g of fat and was made up of foods I’ve eaten fine all week - what the hell? I took some paracetamol which dulled the pain (I have codine but I’m reluctant to use it as the pain wasn’t as bad as last week). Peppermint tea seems to have helped.
I’m now petrified to eat and also really scared of having such regular attacks because I have no idea how long I’m going to be waiting for surgery.
Any advice on managing attacks would be gratefully received ❤️
