Needing a reliable starting machine

I’m gonna have a solid amount of money to buy a machine and I’m pretty sure I have good locations to choose from being in Atlanta and the World Cup coming up this summer. Anyway, I was looking for a reliable beginner machine that won’t need crazy maintenance, but is also affordable. Somewhere in the price range of 2-3K. If someone more experienced could give me some ideas or tips it’d be much appreciated. Thank you!

Ashthorpe Banjo

I’ve been playing with an Ashthorpe banjo for close to a year now and was thinking about switching. Mine doesn’t have a tone ring and I got it for about 150 on amazon, but regardless I still like its sound. I was wondering what anybody thinks in relation to how it sounds compared to playing other banjos, especially ones with tone rings. Also if it’s worth the higher price for the upgrade based on the sound. Thank you!
