Surprise Goldfish adoption

Hey! I’m looking for some advice on a bit of a situation here. Some context: I currently have a 5 gallon planted tank that used to house a beta fish that unfortunately died back in September. Since then I wasn’t sure what to do with the tank, whether to get a new fish or scrap it.

However, through round a bout way and convoluted story, I volunteered to take 3, what seems to be comet???, gold fish today from a friend who would not be able to keep them.

My concerns are that I live in an apartment and can only have up to a 10 gallon tank per my leases restrictions. I was planning on going shopping tomorrow to purchase a 10 gallon tank, as after doing some initial research into these fish after procuring them today, I realized I’m going to need a MUCH bigger tank than my current 5 gallon.

However, I’m reading that they need up to at least 20 gallons as they continue to grow and I unfortunately cannot support that in my current apartment.

What should I do? Can they live reasonable in a 10 gallon? Should I surrender them to a pet store? Any advice is helpful as I want to do my best to make sure these 3 little guys are taken care of one way or another!

TLDR: have 3 new gold fish but can only have up to a 10 gallon tank in my apartment 🙏🏻

Also, I did not buy them like this. This is how they came from the person I got them from.
