🇮🇳 India has only 5.2% credit card penetration. Are we massively early?

I came across this and had to double-check it.

🇺🇸 USA: 70%
🇸🇪 Sweden: 85%
🇮🇳 India: 5.2%

People constantly say India’s credit card market is overcrowded. But if only ~5% of people actually have credit cards, maybe we’re seeing the market before the real expansion starts.

Do you think UPI changed the trajectory, or are credit cards still massively underpenetrated in India? Curious what everyone thinks.
