Constant bleeding & mood swings. Would a Replacement be best? (3.5 years in)
TLDR; long periods, heavy bleeding, mood swings & depression all 3.5 years into implant. I’m exhausted from these constant new side effects, would getting it replaced be my best bet? I don’t want to not be on bc.
So I got my Nexplanon inserted in Oct 2022, and besides some nausea and low libido at first, I did not have any noticeable side effects. I didn’t get my period, maybe once or twice in the past 3 years, until August of 2025 I started getting them regularly. They’d be your average 4-5 day periods, regular flow, nothing crazy but it was definitely new considering I stopped getting them. In November I went to get it replaced due to the 3 year mark but my OB highly suggested against replacing since it’s good for 5 years. I took her advice and kept it in. As of 2026, i’ve been bleeding for 3-4 weeks on end and only get 1-2 weeks of no bleeding, then repeat. I’m exhausted, the bleeding is heavy most of the time, I feel myself getting depressed and emotional, I’m tired of it. I’m aware that getting it replaced is a gamble in terms of new side effects but idk what to do. I’m 23, I have pregnancy anxiety, and I do not want to NOT be on birth control. My bf and I still use condoms for example, but I do not trust just condoms lol. I’m thinking of getting it replaced but is that my best bet? I do not want an IUD, and I’m horrible at regularly taking pills. Any advice/experiences with something similar would really help :,)
