I am a linguist, and I have a website where I collect expressions and words from all over the world, especially ones that are regional, and I know the caribbean has some amazing expressions/slang, so I would love to know, what is a word or expression that only people from your island?
Brazil is a HUGE country, and learning Portuguese something that would endlessly fascinate me as a linguist was that every state had its own way of speaking (accent, words, expressions).

My name is Amarens, and I'm a linguist from the Netherlands.
As someone who speaks multiple languages, I often encounter words that exist in one language but not in another; words or expressions that might technically have a translation, but it doesn't quite capture the meaning, or that are used by specific groups or in specific contexts.
I've always loved writing these words down and explaining them to others. I loved it even more when others would teach me about the ones from their language.
So, long story short, I made a website where you can add and explore words just like these. It's called Untranslatable, but it's not really about words without translation; it's for any word or expression that needs a little extra explanation for outsiders. You can even add a source, and specify where exactly it is used, and by who.
It currently has words and expressions in over 100 languages from all over the world, and to me, it's a real treasure chest of linguistic gems.
I'm not great at promoting it, but I know there might be people in this group who would find it interesting to see the words on this site, or maybe even add some of their own!
