Founding Fathers you wish experienced events after their death

Who is a Founding Father you wish could’ve witnessed and therefore publicly spoke about a certain event? For me, a pretty common and simple one-Washington experiencing not just a true Civil War, but the passing of the 13th Amendment. I think he would’ve been like some CSA Officers in post war opinion, to be honest. Yes, publicly stating it was good. However, a lot of those guys including Lee said after the fact, after a loss, and what was law, that they support it. Actions speak louder than words but words were, again in my opinion, more important and honest in past generations. He would’ve supported its passage, but privately; reluctantly, and abided gracefully.

Childrens Visuals for American History

My wife and I work with children and I personally love American History (and charts). With that being said, are there any parents or uncles and aunts or big siblings or baby sitters here looking for a simple visual to help their little ones comprehend something related to American History? I might be looking for a little project or homework this American weekend. Hopefully I learn something too and though it might take some time, I do want at least a few little projects to help your kids out-if I find your requests in the comments!

CFA General James Longstreet

This is for educational purposes, not a debate, because I truly would like to learn here: we all know about Robert E. Lee. Ive recently found myself pretty intrigued with the career of James Longstreet. While i understand and wouldn’t argue with anyone that holds the opinion that we should’ve charged with treason and hanged the Confederate Soldiers at the end of the war, i think that just goes to show that Lincoln and Grant are our two greatest Americans. Where I think Longstreet is an outlier is that he publicly advocated for Black Suffrage for the remainder of his post war career, whereas Lee did not (and Im pretty sure JL was not a super fan of REL from my understanding). Im hoping to learn more about JS; I just finished The General Who Defied the South, and would like to be pointed in directions other than Wikipedia…which ive read already, to learn more about him. Not for sympathy or to change an opinion, just to learn. I feel like sometimes in modern day people confuse the desire to learn about a treasonous or morally abhorrent individual, with sympathy or common ground (granted this is the internet).

What can we do more than just say Juneteenth is a holiday and go about our day?

Im coming at this as a white male in my 30s raised in the suburbs of indiana so i mean no ignorance towards my lack African American History. The question i ask all of you is how do we, in the current culture and future generations, celebrate without really touching politics, the incredible works of African Americans? There is the obvious reparations answer, but nationwide, its just not going to be a thing or it would’ve truly happened decades ago to a mass scale. I love what historic sites have done-Mt. Vernon, Monticello-where they make it a part of the tour and grounds you must see to pay your respects. Mt. Vernon has a well manicured area with texts and signs about specific enslaved. As i believe they do at Jeffersons Monticello. Across the country, what do you think could be done that most people could get behind?

30-35 years til retirement portfolio evaluation

1 year in and current value is about $5000. Return rate we plan for is based off 9% return. 13 months into and its looking great. The breakdown and my new plans/addition ($440 per month into Roth):

50% VOO
25% SCHD
20% Custom ETF (just started-top company by market cap from the top 10sectors-breaks down to $10 each contributed per month and will continue to contribute every month to whatever the active number 1 in each sector is. One month may be Nvidia the next, Apple)
5% DTCR
Also…not debating SCHD lol its too long to explain all the reasons i want that over 35 years vs more VOO growth

Isn’t universal healthcare pro business?

Yes we know the healthcare system in America sucks. This isn’t a question about how it changes healthcare companies or its share holders. I understand that would probably take a hit. I’m questioning the fact that it seems universal healthcare (or Medicare for all) are good for companies. I have a high deductible plan, and on average i believe companies pay around 3/4 of a employee plan. One 1.45% goes to Medicare. For me, that means my school/place of work, pays $600 for their portion of healthcare while paying/matching about $40 to Medicare. I, like many on a high deductible, just use preventive care once a year as the *perk* of high deductible. Working businesses love to not have to pay only for a Medicare like system? Use it when you need it, for so many people? Even raising the medicare tax rate 3x would still save so many people AND business money while raising hundreds of billions of dollars towards healthcare.
