Powersave not automatic

Thinkpad Carbon X1 with fresh Quattro here. I can manually suspend and hibernate, no problem with that. But while on battery and balanced mode, the computer does not suspend or hibernate automatically. I cant find any settings for timeout etc.

Anyone?

Self-hosted server backup

As the title indicates, what should I do to ensure that my self hosted Google VPS have a backup that I can use to restore the service on a second VPS service? Not that Google is bad, but I am considering a free VPS at AWS.

Related to that; what is the method to update the hbbr and hbbs modules? I used an installer named "install.sh" to implement the sh server in one step.

Edit: Found the update script. Seems to work as intended!

Carbon X1 G9 firmware issue?

I think that my beloved X1 has problems with it's firmware. A week ago, I used my external hub to connect HDMI, network, power, audio and USB through it's USB-C contact.

Since yesterday, the HDMI has stopped to work. All other hub functions is operating. Connecting the HDMI cable directly in the computer works.

I have tried with another new USB hub, but the same problem. Everything except HDMI works. I have swapped HDMI cable, no go.

What I suspect (without knowing) is that the latest Fedora 44 update did something with fwupdmgr that broke HDMI over USB. Again, this is just a guess.

I booted the same Fedora install USB as last time, but with the same result. No HDMI over USB-C. When I installed F44 a couple of weeks ago, I used the same installer and that worked as expected. But not anymore, thats why I suspect a hardware glitch.

So, is there a way to recover the UEFI software (without using Windows)? I have scanned the Lenovo support site but all I found required Windows in order to create the UEFI recovery.

Anyone? I love my X1 and really want to solve this 👀

Edit: Found the pinhole reset thing, and that actually solved the problem. Amazing!

Hyprlock with gaze for face unlock - issue

Arch with DMS QuickShell and Hyprland. I have disabled DMS internal lock screen and uses hyprlock and gaze-hyprlock. Gaze is configured to use face unlock, and it works "sort of".

The thing is that if I lock manually and looks on the screen within a couple of seconds, it unlocks. But if I wait more than, lets say 10 seconds, then I need to enter the password.

Maybe its the settings in hypridle, hyprlock or the pam module that is configured incorrectly. Maybe its my hardware, a Thinkpad X1 Carbon G9 that needs tweaking.

Anyone?

Features

What features on my Surface Laptop 3 will i miss by using the default 7 kernel instead of the specialized kernel? I know that touch screen is one (that i dont care for), but are there other stuff that I will miss?

I am on F44 if that matters.

I spun up a Compute VM in GCC a couple of months ago. It is located in us-west-1, have a 10 GB persistent disk and nothing more. I am billed a small amount, approx 10 USD, every month in spite of the supposed free tier.

The VM is used by me and a few other people as a wireguard and rustdesk hub. Not much traffic at all from what I understand.

What have a misunderstood?
