Current AIL agent considering leaving looking for advice from former agents
I've been with American Income Life for roughly two months and have produced about $2000.00 ALP so far. I came into this genuinely wanting to give the opportunity a fair shot. I got licensed, learned the presentation and application process, made the calls, wrote business, and have proven to myself that I can actually sell insurance.
At this point, though, I'm seriously considering leaving. The amount of prospecting, no-shows, inconsistent income, chargeback exposure, and overall time required hasn't produced the ROI I need. I'm looking at going back to a W-2 position and would rather make a clean exit than continue writing business when I'm already questioning whether staying makes financial sense. I mean, 3 weeks with no pay has been brutal on my family.
I've been reading through this subreddit and have seen posts from people who left at all different levels, including people who made it all the way to MGA. I'd especially like to hear from people who actually produced business before leaving.
My main questions are:
- What is the cleanest way to resign from AIL?
- Is there anything you wish you had done before submitting your resignation?
- What happened with outstanding chargebacks after you left?
- What happens to renewals/vesting on business you've already written?
- Did you have any issues getting released or contracted with another insurance company afterward?
- Is there anything in the agent contract that people commonly overlook when leaving?
- Should I stop writing new business before formally resigning?
- How long after leaving did chargebacks continue showing up?
- For anyone who left after reaching SA/GA/MGA or producing significant ALP, was there anything different about your exit?
- Is there anything else you think an agent should know before walking away?
I'm not looking to trash AIL or argue about whether the opportunity works. I know some people do very well there. I'm just looking at my own numbers and circumstances and thinking a predictable W-2 income makes more sense for me right now.
I'd appreciate hearing from people who have actually gone through the exit process, especially what you would do differently knowing what you know now.
