Another deeply disappointed customer

Received a Karu Pro 16 for Father’s Day and got around to using it mid July.

After a month of effort, it’s a failure. The oven can’t maintain 400c and constantly flames out. More often than not I need to hold the burner in the priming position to actually cook a pie.

I’ve spent more time trolling online forums about cleaning thermocouples than I’ve spent using the oven.

Anyone else have this problem? Ooni customer support is an exercise in malicious compliance. They want videos of everything for a machine with one knob.

Does Ooni honor their warranty or should I go straight to chargeback. Thankfully I used an Amex card.

VT home affordability versus the rest of US

https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2026/05/18/opinion/affordable-housing-america.html

When it comes to our income versus the price of housing, it turns out Vermont is pretty much average.

For all of the US, the median cost of a house is 4.9X the median income. ,
For Vermont, we are about 4.75X in 2026 (82,730 median income — census data, and $394,227 median home price — Zillow).

This gives me some hope, even if it’s still hard to afford a first home.

Here come the school consolidations

Even though we’ve seen this day coming for a decade, this article opens with a parent commenting that decisions were unilateral and community input was not sought. Maybe it’s time for the professionals we’ve hired and the officials we’ve elected to be allowed to do their jobs.

As a parent I’m passionate, but I’m also self-interested in what I think is best for my family. Sure, I’ll say I’m only thinking about “the children”, but if I’m being honest, I really mean “my kid”. I don’t think I’m alone on that.

We should all prepare. I know every district is unique, but in my town, the last 10 town meetings have served as notice that the piper will need to be paid.
