I got some copies of my books printed from Amazon KDP, with their new ground paper, thinking that if it was good for the environment. The actual heights of the books all appear to vary by 1-2mm each and the artwork is drifting all over the place! The blue rectangle was supposed to be 3mm from the edge of the book, but as you can see it is drifted onto the spine in a couple of these.

It is a little sad as the Hardbacks have all been a decent quality so far.

I think I will adjust the art a little to make them a little less obvious when they are drifting and donate these to a local book shop to sell at a discount so that they can benefit at the very least :D

What makes for an interesting cover?

Judge the book by the cover.

We all do it, despite the age old advice not to!

Of course, with RR being home to many AI covers, I'm really looking for thoughts and feedback on what people think make an interesting cover if they are making them themselves (or have someone making them for them).

Single or a pair of main characters, posed dramatically seems to be a strong start. The poses will convey some of their position in the story and their role.

This is where my real experience with the process is pretty limited past this point.
Strong contrasting colours to make things stand out, and maybe some background elements to hint at things to come as well.

What covers really worked for you?

What tips can you share and do you make your covers?

Just for reference you can see the cover I am working with currently here, though I have a few older ones I can post if people want to see its evolution (there is not much change beyond increasing quality as I tend to hit on an idea and then stick with it :D )
