Arch pain? I think many of us are misdiagnosed

I wonder how many people diagnosed with PF actually have posterior tibial tendonitis

I was diagnosed with PF after developing pretty bad foot pain, mostly in my arch. I was told to stretch and do calf raises, but both made me worse. Weirdly, I got significantly better when I started strengthening my hips and glutes.

Then I overdid the calf raises/stretching and got WAY worse, to the point where I could barely stand. I eventually got an MRI and it showed posterior tibial tendonitis. Even after my MRI, my podiatrist was insistent that I had plantar fasciitis to the point that it made me question the whole medical system.

I honestly wonder how many people here with mostly arch pain might be dealing with the same thing. Especially because I see people on here all the time talking about overpronation, hypermobility, hip/glute strengthening helping, pain from increasing load too quickly, etc. Those are all things that come up with posterior tibial tendon issues too.

It’s interesting that posts about posterior tibial tendonitis in young people are SO RARE. I wonder if PF is so common that it seems like it can become the default diagnosis, when really many just have a condition they THINK is more common in older adults.

Has anyone else here originally been diagnosed with PF and later found out it was posterior tibial tendonitis or another tendon issue?

Will Posterior Tibial Tendonitis Ever Get Better?

I have researched my condition at length, it is not yet PTTD. Doctors and PT think it is truly just irritation/ tendonitis. But it’s been 8 months with flares setting me back constantly.

It’s already rare, but struggling to find success stories to give me hope. Anyone recovered from chronic PTT?

Misdiagnosed- Posterior Tibial Tendon

Anyone here have some tips about Posterior Tibial Tendon. I am still at around a 30 minute walking tolerance at 23 years old. Starting to feel hopeless.

My MRI showed tendinitis, and it matches my symptoms (despite my podiatrist insisting I just had a unique form of PF).

If your pain is not improving and is mainly in the arch, advocate for further diagnostics.

Posterior Tibial Tendon - 23 Years Old

I’m only 23, but have PTT tendonitis. My MRI shows no damage, but fluid around the sheath.

This started in December. I’ve improved slightly, from a 5 minute walking tolerance to about 30 minutes (I didn’t really start Physical Therapy until February, and had a big flare in April.)

Looking for advice and success stories from people with tendon issues. Sometimes I feel very hopeless.

I can’t seem to do simple calf raises without triggering a major flare. Seated ones have been okay.

Feeling Hopeless

PF came on suddenly for me in November. At first, I could not even stand for a few minutes. After a few months of PT, I got my tolerance back up to about an hour.

However, about a month ago, I did way too many calf raises suddenly (stupid). At first, I couldn’t even stand for a few minutes. I’m currently at about 10 minutes before it starts to hurt.

Even simple clam shells or just a few reps of PT hurt.

Any advice? I really thought I was getting better, but having a month-long flare is making me feel so hopeless.
