A city sued its own local newspaper to stop it publishing how much water Google’s data centre was using. Google covered the legal costs.

The Dalles, Oregon. Population around fifteen thousand.

In 2021 the data centre there used 355 million gallons of water. That was 29% of everything the town used. Nobody outside the city government knew the figure, because it was being treated as a trade secret.

The local paper went after it. A district attorney reviewed the case and ordered the records released. The city went to court anyway to keep them sealed, and the legal costs were being covered by Google, whose consumption the number described.

It held until the lawsuit itself became a bigger story than the water. Google withdrew the funding, the city settled, and the figures came out at the end of 2022.

What I keep coming back to is that the aggregate number was never secret. Google publishes total water withdrawal in its annual environmental report. It was the single town's share that was worth going to court over.

How Europe conquered Hungary

How Europe conquered Hungary >Liberal authoritarianism is on the move

>The lesson is clear: “democracy” and the “rule of law” function above all as pretexts for disciplining governments that resist the EU’s expanding authority. Indeed, when it comes to supporting its own emissaries, there is apparently no red line the EU will not cross — up to and including greenlighting the outright annulment of entire elections when they go the wrong way, as we saw in Romania in 2024.

What Fauci’s Diary Reveals About America’s Health Care Apparatus

What Fauci’s Diary Reveals About America’s Health Care Apparatus

  • Throughout his career, NIAID director Anthony Fauci has been involved in unscrupulous activity which put America’s health at risk, with much of what he did through COVID building upon a successful blueprint he created decades ago during the AIDS crisis (at a now surreal time when Democrats like Pelosi grilled him during a 1988 hearing).

  • As part of Senator Rand Paul’s six year quest to hold Fauci accountable for his role in creating COVID-19 and putting an end to gain of function research, Fauci recently was forced to testify in front of a Senate committee in an unusually candid and contentious hearing where Fauci took the unusual tactic of refusing to testify by pleading the Fifth on every question. This article will summarize the key highlights of that hearing.

  • Immediately prior to hearing, private diary entries were released that Fauci had been keeping on a nearly daily basis that explicitly showed many of the public statements he made (and forced us to go along with) contradicted his actual beliefs.

  • They also paint a unique picture into his personality, as the saint much of the world came to worship during the pandemic (despite him failing to provide any substantive results) was not at all focused on the science or wellbeing of the country, and instead was a petty man who was obsessed with the fame and media attention he got and using that fame to influence the media’s coverage of the pandemic (and hence the course of it).

  • Many of the almost unbelievable revelations about Fauci’s personality and conduct mirror what two White House insiders witnessed as they tried to stop Fauci’s senseless pandemic policies—including his profound lack of scientific literacy Scott Atlas observed throughout the pandemic.

  • Collectively, these events illustrate an unfortunate reality—the loudest “follow the science” voices are often the most illiterate grifters. Fortunately, as the hearing showed, public opinion is turning against this paradigm and now that the unconditional trust medicine relies upon has been broken, there is a real window for alternatives to the existing paradigm to flourish.

Long read, worth the read.

Interestingly, the author claims being not able to find the videos of the 1988 hearings where Dr. Fauci was grilled by the Democrats over the aids issue.

Former Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene on X: I served on the Covid Select Committee on Oversight under Republican leadership. It was one of most frustrating experiences. I’m pretty sure I was the only unvaccinated member on the committee. It’s all a show.

Using Mamdani, they're trying to create a framework -- obviously -- where any criticism of the Israeli leader is inherently anti-Semitic and, worse, dangerous.

This is the problem with the Me Too movement. Any allegation of sexual misconduct now automatically = guilt (if the accused is perceived as anti-Israel). Obviously, this is prone to abuse and is why we need to have standards for adjudicating these claims in the public square

What's happening in the Michigan Senate race is one of the most extreme, brazen examples yet of how US politics is dominated and financed by loyalists to a foreign country

Glenn Greenwald; The first person the attacker stabbed in NYC was Asian, but you'll notice he's been disappeared from the narrative, in part because his being Asian undermines the narrative, but also because for so many of these people, non-Jewish lives have no value, so there's only one victim.

Let me explain this absurd ruse: The Pentagon is pretending there have been two Iran wars separated by a brief cease-fire. The reality: By going more than 90 days without congressional authorization @SecWar IS BREAKING THE LAW and must be held accountable.

Rep. Massie : Unfortunately the Rule passed just now and no debate or vote was allowed on section 219, integration of US military technology and supply chains with Israel’s.

Rep. Massie: My raw milk ages better than this. In response to Trump Jr: Remember when they said Trump would get us into a full-blown war with Iran?

The whole Butler, PA event is very strange. The US Right was outraged and suspicious that almost nothing was disclosed about the accused killer: a 20-year-old with zero footprint. Once Trump/Patel/Bongino got in, the truth would be revealed! 19 months later: still nothing.

There was a huge scandal in 2013 -- driven by daily outrage from the Right and Fox (and they were right) -- that the Obama DOJ sent subpoenas to AP and Fox reporters to find their sources of classifed infomation. Holder stopped the policy. Now Trump is doing it to the NYT:
