Thinking about getting an Egyptian Mau

I have always wanted a purebreed cat. I only really want to "buy" a cat once as there is an overpopulation issue in most of the United States.

Tell me your experience with Egyptian Maus. Bad or good breeders?

I have had cats most of my life but most of them were outdoor/barn cats. My current cat, Alvina, is my first strictly indoor cat. (I'll include the cat tax in the comments.) I have no plans to breed. Maybe try taking my Mau to a cat show, as that what got me interested in a purebred cat.

The dreaded C

Gaius was acting weird Sunday night. He wasn't interested in his food when he is a food hound. He was just kinda laying on the tile in the basement when he is usually somewhere where he can see me or my husband. Monday morning, he seemed to perk up some but still not himself. My husband took him to the vet.

They did some tests and found his spleen enlarged, a tumor around the spleen and that he was anemic. They suspected cancer. They sent blood work out and we got the results back that he had lymphoma. He doesn't have any lumps or swelling of his lymph nodes, its just around his spleen.

The vet gave us three options. One we can't do because it would require us to go out of state once a week and we can't afford. The other two options are adriamycin/doxorubicin chemo or prednisone, a steroid/chemo combo.

We are trying to decide which is best for him. It doesn't seem like there is a right answer. Gaius is 9 years old, but he has been really healthy and hasn't really slowed down. I'm grateful and fortunate for that.

Has anyone done these treatments and what were they like?
