Advice on speed?
I’m currently enrolled in the Virginia school of pet grooming, twice a week since late march. I had my first evaluation yesterday and while the teacher was impressed with my finished work, he has been increasingly frustrated with my speed. I only had 2 dogs and it took me nearly 6 hours… i am really doing my best, but sometimes he is rushing me and i don’t particularly well being rushed given my ADHD (not an excuse, I’m working on it), I don’t want to accidentally hurt the dog trying to go faster :(
I understand he’s trying to run a business as well so there are clients and money involved, and if I want to survive in this business I’m going to have to pick up my speed. But at the same time Im still a student, i feel like i need to back up a little because im not learning at the same pace as everyone else. The thing that gets me though is that he told me that when you are hired at a salon, they initially don’t care about the speed as much because you are new, and typically have 5-6 months to pick up the pace. Except I’ve only attended a total of 16 days here and he gets angry when i don’t meet these expectations.
I truly enjoy doing this and want to make a career out of it, but every day I’m starting to wonder if I’m really even cut out for it. I know i can do good work but there is no point if i can’t make enough money because I’m too slow. Thoughts? ;;
