Title: 18M | Profile: 9/8/? | Did CBSE’s strict marking just kill my IIM / Consulting / Finance dreams?
Hey everyone, I know I might seem a bit young to be stressing over MBA/career goals right now, but I prefer planning ahead. I just got my Class 12 CBSE (PCM) results, and honestly, I am feeling incredibly lost and demotivated.
My Profile:
- 10th: 95.6% (9)
- 12th: 88% (8)
Due to the recent On-Screen Marking (OSM), CBSE grading has gotten brutal this year. The step-marking that previous batches relied on is virtually gone. Because of this, I feel like I'm at a massive disadvantage compared to previous applicants who secured 90%+ (a "9" for their profile) tho i got A1 in 4 and A2 in rest 2 and even the best scorers in my class went below 60 or 70 TF. I doubt the IIMs are going to treat this year's strict evaluation as an anomaly during shortlisting.
My Original Plan: Even if I ended up in a Tier-2 or Tier-3 engineering college for CS, I planned to clear my CFA levels during undergrad because I am genuinely passionate about finance.
The Problem: From everything I read, it seems like breaking into BLACKI IIMs, MBB Consulting, front-end Finance, or top FMCG brand marketing roles strictly requires a 9/9/9 or 9/9/8 profile.
What is even the point now? At this stage, I don't even feel like joining an undergrad college because it feels like the ceiling for my career has already been permanently set by my 12th-grade marks.
Is my profile actually dead for top-tier roles, or am I overthinking this? Would love some harsh truths and realistic advice on what my next steps should be.
