What can we predict about Battle of Five Armies Coop Kit?

Looking at the set code for HOC (Hobbit Eternal) we can see that there's a large gap between The Shire at 52 and Dwarven Warriors at 93, followed by another gap between Thranduil the Strategist at 106 and Banishing Light at 161.

So we have two gaps, one of 41 cards and one of 55 cards.

We already know 9 of the cards in the set with the extended art legends.

We know the set will include non-Siege Battles. What else can we predict using this information?

EDIT: 53-92 are surge foils of box toppers so those are not in the coop kit

So looks like just 55 new cards (11 per faction?)

Rulebreaker violates the sanctity of the format, I'm fucking sick of WOTC messing around with the very rules of the game to sell cards

Now that we've covered unprinted legends, what old legends do you want to see redone?

Mystery Booster Commander gave us a lot of legends for old characters who never got cards, like Worzel and Thomil, Davol, Feroz, the Weaver King. But it also gave us a redos of cards that are pretty weak by today's standards, like Joven and Chandler, Lord of Tresserhorn, and Autumn Willow. So going off that latter group, who do you want to see revamped?

For me, I'd love to see a new take on [[Jacques le Vert]], since there's a pretty consistent mechanical theme to any cards related to Jacques, except for Jacques himself. Jacques gives +0/+2 for green creatures, but [[Pendelhaven]], the land he protects, [[Sword of the Meek]], the weapon he wields, and [[Pendelhaven Elder]], those who carry on his legacy, *all* care about 1/1 creatures and all give them a +1/+2 boost. We need a new Jacques card that gives 1/1s +1/+2!

Also I'd like to see [[Ur-Drago]], because I have no idea what his deal is. Named after the Ur-Dragon, covered in rock with a steel mask, scorpion hands and hooved feet. Honestly I don't even care what the card does, I just want to see new art.

So… where’s Jaws?

When they revealed the secret lair for [[Jaws, Relentless Predator]] they said they had a product coming up that would have the Universes Within version. I assumed it (and the [[Lara Croft, Tomb Raider]] in-universe print leaked here) would be in the Mystery Booster Commander product, but no such luck. Nauctis would be an excellent place for Jaws, but what of Lara? And didn’t they say Jaws would be out in 2026?

Also while we’re speculating on products - which set do you think will have the allied Turbulent lands?

What is going on in Smuggler’s Surprise?

Why is [[Smuggler’s Surprise]] depicting a Trojan [[Akroan Horse]]? In the Wild West plane? Is the idea that people from Theros are bringing an aspect of their culture to Thunder Junction?

WOTC only has one trick for characters with numbers in their name, huh?

Biggest lore disappointments

One of my biggest letdowns is the commanders of the 5c Eldrazi precon. We got Ulalek, who canonically is where Ulamog and Kozilek “held hands” so to speak, and Azlask, an Ulamog brood member with absolutely no lore attached. Meanwhile, there was a perfect opportunity for one already existing in canon: General Tazri in Kozilek’s reality warp. In The Blight We Were Born For, General Tazri survives a reality distortion blast from Kozilek, but in doing so experiences all of her life in the same moment. Part of this lifetime involves her become enthralled by Kozilek, spending tens of thousands of years in his service. The interesting part is that this was not merely a vision, but actual reality as this experience lifted a curse put upon her that would last a lifetime. So in the story we have an existing character with a WUBRG identity off of an activated ability, who in an alternate reality served the Eldrazi. She would have been perfect as the card Azlask ended up being. Instead we got yet another legendary Eldrazi that represents a small part of a larger Eldrazi Titan, just like Zhulodok, which makes no sense.

What are some of your biggest lore letdowns?

When Foundations released, it included ten "main characters" - five planeswalkers and five legendary creatures. They'd each be featured on one of the full-art lands, and the idea was that these characters would appear in sets following the release of Foundations (source)

Now that we have two years' worth of sets known following Foundations, I wanted to go over all the characters and see if they've already played a role or will play a role.

Planeswalkers:

  • Ajani - appeared in Lorwyn, will appear in Reality Fracture
  • Kaito - appeared in Duskmourn right before, hasn't appeared since
  • Liliana - will appear in Reality Fracture
  • Chandra - appeared in Aetherdrift, will appear in Reality Fracture
  • Vivien - nothing, her basic art appears on Ikoria and we saw in the Ikoria was pulled from Aetherdrift since story had an idea about another thing to do with it

Legendary creatures:

  • Giada - nothing
  • Zimone - appeared in Duskmourn right before, was a face commander for Secrets of Strixhaven
  • Tinybones - nothing
  • Kellan - nothing
  • Loot - Aetherdrift, his basic art has him on Amonkhet so that's what it's referencing

So we can infer that we'll be seeing Kaito, Giada, Tinybones, and Kellan sometime in the three years after Reality Fracture? Thoughts?

Innistrad vampires are known to be hedonistic and short sighted. Sorin created Avacyn as a safeguard against vampires consuming the entire human population of Innistrad, causing their own extinction. Now that vampires are aware of the multiverse, will they now be able to hunt off plane with no care for sustainability?

Follow up question: how did one end up as a visiting professor? Innistrad vampires are at best oppressive aristocrats and at worst sadistic predators. Did Strixhaven not vet their new faculty? (I guess they did let war criminal Liliana Vess in as a long term professor)
