r/hillpeoplegear community feedback requested

All of the mod stuff is now in good order. I’m not sure if Reddit clears certain things automatically or if they were never set up in the first place, but it looks like one thing we need are some community rules…

What would you like to see, or rather not see, in r/hillpeoplegear?

I generally think subs like this benefit with less moderation, nobody likes a power tripping mod, but we do need some guidelines to be a sub in Reddit’s good graces.

There’ll be the usual “Follow Reddit Rules.”
Another should probably be “Must relate to Hill People Gear products.” How strict do you want that be? Some communities like off-topic conversation.
Allowing sales posts? Better off in another sub? Allowed willy-nilly? Or with strict guidelines?
Allow commercial links to HPG products for sale?
What else?

Right now all features like images and videos and gifs are enabled. There are some very minimal automations in place to keep out spam, and enforce aspects of Reddiquette. New and low karma accounts may be filtered for a bit, but authentic content will get approved.

I’m a strong believer in mod transparency. This isn’t my sub, it’s yours, I’m just here to help keep the lights on. Let me know what I can do.

r/hillpeoplegear is back!

If you’ve visited this sub, or tried to post or comment in the past year or so, you might have noticed that it had gone inactive. Reddit doesn’t like unmoderated subs and I think it was not allowing new posts or comments anymore.

Unfortunately, it looks like it was found and taken over by a spammer, and then from what I can tell in the mod logs, maybe a well meaning but inexperience mod Reddit Requested the sub and took over, and got a few things approved, or maybe a different spam bot team took over again but also got themselves all banned.

Well, now it’s back and in good hands. I’m an active mod on another community, and while I do have filters turned up to Max at the moment, just to make sure there aren’t any spammy surprises left behind, I’ll relax things over the next few days as I get the sub settings tuned. So if posts or comments don’t show up right away, give it a few hours and they should be approved.

Welcome back!

Why I’m requesting r/hillpeoplegear and how I’ll run it:

I'm looking to help keep this subreddit about a specific brand of hiking and backcountry gear alive. Spammers will be booted out, authentic content will be encouraged and supported.
