650c versus 650b

Hello all,

I am leaving on a bike touring trip tomorrow taking my road bike which has 650b tires. I live in a very small town with minimal access to equipment. I know I should have addressed this sooner but this is the situation I’m in. The only spare tubes I can buy are 650c. I know it’s not ideal but I am wondering if it would be safe to bring and use these. Ordering online isn’t an option for me, and if there is a bike shop reasonably close to me on the touring route I’ll try and pick up 650b tubes there. Thanks!

More Bike Advice

Hey everyone,

I posted on here a while ago asking if it would be ok to take my carbon road bike on the Oregon Coast Route. I decided that because of how small I am and consequently how small the bike is, it would be too much of a risk because of weight and geometry to have the bike loaded up. Consequently I am wondering if it is realistic to use my trail mtb with full lockout suspension and just put slick XC tires on it and expect to keep up with my friend that is on a gravel bike. Fitness wise there isn’t a significant difference and if anything I am a bit more fit than her for biking so it will be purely about the bike holding me back. Do you guys think this will work?

Oregon Coast Route - Road Bike Ok?

Hi all,

I’m planning on doing the Oregon Coast Route later this year. I am primarily a mountain biker who is just getting into road cycling. I have an enduro mountain bike (which I won’t want to bring) and a carbon road bike. If possible I would really like to avoid having to buy a new bike for this trip. I already have the full setup to be able to tour with my road bike, but a friend who did this route told me it’s a bad idea because of road conditions and the bike being too fragile. I understand there are gravel detours but the friend I am going with agreed we can not do them if it means I can take the road bike. All advice and suggestions are super appreciated.

Thanks!
