Second year, still no accommodation

It’s my second year at Aligarh Muslim University, and although I have been allotted MM Hall, I haven’t even been allotted Annexe yet. Despite trying my best to find some sort of accommodation, I have had no luck so far.

I came to Aligarh on 9 August, and even after all these days, I still don’t have a place to stay. I thought, okay, let’s leave everything aside and find a PG or a room somewhere near the campus. But surprisingly, almost every PG and room is already booked. There is simply no space available.

Right now, I’m literally wandering from one place to another, trying to figure out where I can stay and even where I can sleep. Because of this, I’m not even able to attend my classes properly.

And honestly, I don’t even know who is responsible for this situation. If the university is already aware of the accommodation crisis, why are so many admissions being taken without ensuring that students have proper accommodation? At the very least, the existing waiting lists should be cleared first and students should be provided accommodation before bringing in more admissions.

I genuinely don’t know what else to say at this point. I just want a place to stay so that I can attend my classes and continue my studies peacefully.

Geography Department

Geography might be the most boring department I’ve ever seen. I had Geography as my generic in first year, and in the first semester, the professor was extremely rude. Whenever any student raised a genuine concern, he would respond very aggressively instead of addressing it properly.

Then, in the second semester, the teacher conducted two sessions, each worth 30 marks. I missed one of them due to illness, but instead of considering my situation, he gave me only 8 marks based on the average. How is that even fair? And it wasn’t just me, around 15–20 students were absent from that session, and he simply averaged the marks and deducted them for everyone who was absent.

And on top of that, the professor marked me absent for around 4–7 days for no reason. When I went to his office and told him that I was actually present on those days, I even showed him my lecture notebook with the proper dates and everything he had taught in those classes. Instead of listening, he simply accused me of editing the notes and said, “You have edited this, you have edited that.” I told him that I take my attendance very seriously, but he completely ignored my explanation.

Do you have any idea when rooms usually start getting allotted? I know it's a long process, but I was just wondering if you have any rough idea. I've been allotted MM Hall, and now that I'm in my second year, I was hoping the room allotment might happen soon.

I just completed my first year of B.A. Hons (Sociology) at Aligarh Muslim University. How does the VAC and VOC system work in the second year? Do we still have to study those subjects, and what subject options are available in the second year?
