No more fluoro esophagrams

Our radiologists have said esophagrams no longer need to be under fluoro, they all need to be done ‘bedside’ with just 3 views, PA, lateral and RAO. The whole esophagus doesn’t need to be visualized, just ‘60%’.

Any thoughts on this? Not sure how other facilites are doing esophagrams now and days.
I always felt that fluoro gave us a dynamic study for a reason.

We primarily do these studies for foreign body, aspiration, dysphagia(when SLP isn’t involved), sore throat, and check leak/perforation post surgery.

PICC Line Orders

I’m curious how other facilities handle PICC orders.

We do one chest X-ray order per adjustment thus the patient can get anywhere from one charge to ten charges and the radiologist will do a full report for each adjustment.

Is this standard practice?

ETA: This is a PICC line placed by vascular access and confirming with a portable chest X-ray, not fluoro.

Diagnostic mammogram tomorrow - Asymmetry

I have a strong family history of breast cancer, all starting around the same age I am (34).

I am overdue on my mammogram by 2 years - I’ve just had a lot of other medical stuff going on and this went on the back burner.

My mammogram came back with 2 changes:
I went from category A - not dense, to category D - extremely dense. I know this can be due to a lot of different things so I’m not putting too much thought into it.

I was also noted to have an asymmetry on one view. Located close to my chest wall and wasn’t imaged on other views due to how close it was to my chest wall.

So I go tomorrow for another mammogram and also an ultrasound.
They are recommending a breast MRI and told me extremely dense breast can hide cancer, however I can’t have an MRI.

I’ve gone through a lot of different emotions, mostly because I’ve had a rough year medically and I’m kind of already burnt out. I’ve managed 3-4 appointments a week for a year now and I’m so over it.

Part of me just wants to chop them off so it’s one less thing to worry about, but I know that’s not how it works unfortunately.
