I’m building a price-finder app that scans an item from a photo and compares prices across different websites. Looking for feedback!
I’m currently in the process of developing a mobile app designed to solve a huge frustration I face every time I go shopping. I wanted to share the idea here to get your honest feedback, feature suggestions, and to see if this is a "painkiller" solution you would actually use.
The Problem: Whenever I’m at a mall, a retail store, or even just walking down the street and I see a cool outfit, a pair of sneakers, or a gadget, I immediately want to know its exact online price. Google Lens exists, but it’s mostly built for visual search—it often just shows similar-looking images or irrelevant links instead of giving me a direct price comparison for the exact product.
The Solution (What I’m Building): An app where you simply click a quick photo of any item. The app instantly recognizes the exact product, scrapes major e-commerce websites, and generates a clean, real-time price comparison table.
It will give you:
- The exact price of the item on different online stores.
- Direct, clickable links to buy it from the cheapest website instantly.
- Price history/alerts (if possible in future updates).
My Questions for You:
- Is this an app you would download and keep on your phone?
- What features would make this a "must-have" app for you instead of just a "nice-to-have" one?
- If you already use an alternative that does exactly this (giving exact prices/links instantly from a photo), please let me know so I can check out the competition!
Would love to hear your thoughts, criticisms, and ideas.
