#ซิ่นกลิ่นโสกseries (Sin Klin Sok) / The Scent of Sorrow synopsis and about TleFirstone roles
#ซิ่นกลิ่นโสกseries (Sin Klin Sok)
SinKlinSok literally means a sinh (traditional Northern Thai sarong) scented with Ashoka flowers. The word Sok (โสก) is also a homophone for Soke (โศก), which means sorrow or grief in Thai, cleverly creating a double meaning in the title. This historical murder-mystery novel is set in 1949 (B.E. 2492) in Lampang, a province in Northern Thailand.
The story begins with PeeKhan, who flees Bangkok after being falsely accused of a crime he did not commit. Seeking refuge under the protection of a local godfather, Rewat, he reunites with Wassa, his former schoolmate with whom he once shared a relationship that went far beyond friendship. However, they soon become entangled in a mysterious murder case where the killer leaves behind clues written in ancient Lanna script (the ancient script of the historical Northern Thai kingdom). This investigation gradually becomes connected to the death of BuaLah, which occurred thirty years earlier. As the truth unfolds, the case is suspected to be connected to Wassa’s family, forcing PeeKhan and Wassa to work together to uncover what really happened, while also unraveling the enigma of a mysterious woman dressed in a red sinh.
For the upcoming adaptation, Tle plays Police Inspector YoCha, while Firstone portrays Lieutenant WinTai. In the original novel, YoCha and Wassa were once involved in a FWB relationship; YoCha eventually developed genuine feelings for Wassa, but Wassa rejected him. Although heartbroken, YoCha never tried to hold Wassa back and chose to move on. Despite the investigation eventually involving Wassa’s family, YoCha remains fiercely committed to solving the murders, professionally separating his personal feelings from his duty to pursue the truth with complete dedication. Meanwhile, Lieutenant WinTai is transferred from another district to assist with the investigation. Since every murder case appears to be linked to ancient Northern Thai scripts hidden with cryptic codes and linguistic puzzles, WinTai, who possesses the rare ability to read and interpret these ancient writings, joins forces with YoCha to crack the case.
In the novel, the romance between YoCha and WinTai is relatively limited, as their interactions mainly revolve around working together on the investigation while YoCha is still struggling to fully move on from Wassa. However, toward the latter part of the story, the two gradually begin to develop feelings for one another. The author has also revealed that YoCha and WinTai will become the main protagonists of the sequel novel, "Sin Klin Sang."
Sin Klin Sok is widely regarded as one of the most engaging investigative mystery novels among Thai readers, highly praised for its rich writing style, clever use of ancient scripts, and sophisticated storytelling techniques. The author skillfully plants numerous clues throughout the narrative to keep readers speculating, yet flawlessly resolves every single plot thread by the end. That said, the novel can be somewhat challenging for non-native readers because many characters primarily speak in the Northern Thai dialect.
The author recently confirmed on X that YoCha and WinTai's roles have been expanded for the series adaptation, giving both characters a much larger and more prominent presence than they have in the original novel.

"Pearl" is inspired by a Thai BL novel character Merman "Aqua" but will have completely different storyline
from what I gather, Merman Aqua was a Merman who also likes singing and wants to be an idol. P' Aof said they like the character but they wanted a different story for it, so they just bought the rights to that character, renamed him to "Pearl" and will be writing original characters and storyline around him.
Ngl I like that they paid the author even if its for just a character.
