I have been working on what I have always wanted from a Go App. I call it Go Sensei. Dynamic Joseki, KataGo, Reviewing, and it all looks cute and fun.

I invite everyone to play my standalone game. You will have a copy of Katago and can review your games with Katago's help. There is a whole life-and-death world to explore with unlocks and rewards.

I'm always open to hearing what people might want to see from such a game. So drop me a message, and i can look into adding that function to the game.
It's free and currently only for Windows. https://grummy-fox.itch.io/

I hope people enjoy what I have been working on, to make Go more accessible to more people.

Update on my free local KataGo app — added Life & Death puzzles

A few days ago, I shared a project I’ve been building: a completely free standalone Go app that lets you review games and play locally against KataGo.

Thanks to a serious burst of hyperfocus, I’ve made major progress and just added a brand-new Life & Death puzzle section. My girlfriend mentioned the app actually makes learning Go look fun, which was the highest compliment I could’ve asked for.

I don't want to spam this subreddit, so this will be my final post here about the project. I’m planning to work on this practically full-time to make it the absolute best offline Go app available.

  • 100% Free: You can download it anytime. Whenever you see the patch version update, just redownload the latest build to get new features and puzzles.
  • Support: If you find it useful and want to support the project, there’s a "Buy Me a Coffee" link inside the app, but no pressure at all—I’m doing this purely out of love for the game.

[Link to Download https://grummy-fox.itch.io/go-sensei/ ] P.s. It's late, so the YouTube video is from an earlier patch that's found on the itch.io site. i will make a new one tomorrow. But you can see the screenshots to get an idea of how the new build is looking. P.s. I have added Fox and Otter stones. So very cute.

Good night, guys. I need sleep.

Play Go against KataGo with real-time coaching that actually helps you improve.

This is a little project I’m working on.

Before you play a move, the app shows a heatmap of where the strongest predicted moves are likely to be. The idea is to help players develop a better “feel” for good areas of the board.

It’s not connected to KataGo yet — this is just an early prototype. If people like the concept as a training aid, I’ll keep developing it and eventually release the finished app for free.

I’d love any feedback, and I’m happy to add new ideas. Let’s make learning Go more fun!

I have made it downloadable from itch.io for free https://grummy-fox.itch.io/go-sensei

If you want to see anything added, let me know, and I will work on making this the best Go learning game/app that there is.

Played on the new goplay.gg server and got a bot with out being told beforehand

I like the new go server and I dont mind playing bots but I would like to know if it's a bot beforehand rather than work it out half way into a game. To make a bot feel more human they make them play less good moves but the issue with that is the story behind the moves is sometimes lost. Making it feel random. And the swings of skill is another issue. Its why I rather play a human. They have a story they are telling in the board. Any hoot it the new server seems good. Here is a video of my experience with a bot on the server.

Go is an easy game. Its the people that makes it hard.

We constantly compare our casual, human play to high-level Dan players, historical masters, and literal supercomputers. I would compare this to social media algorithms destroying young people's self-esteem by forcing them to look at photoshopped supermodels all day.

When you play Go, you aren’t playing against the absolute depth of the game's ultimate mathematical complexity; you are just playing against the human intelligence sitting across from you. If you play someone near your rank, the game naturally adapts to a space that fits both of your comprehension levels. The game isn't inherently complex—human intelligence is. Go is just an ocean that walks with you; it gets deeper only as your own mind expands.

My YouTube video where I go into more depth on the idea.

My story was that I was an avid chess player as a child. Then found go and never looked back. Until 25 years later my son asked me to play chess with him. This has rekindle my love for chess.

This post is just a celebration of both games. I find it amazing how the two games are so different but both fundamentally hit the same reward centre of my brain. They both borrowing the same underlay skill sets yet some how being different enough that the two games hit differently enough to make both worth playing.

I would say if you have not played chess for a while give it ago and if your a chess player give go a go. Both a wonderful.

I know its AI slop. But I dont mind a good bit of AI generated art. I think this looks cute.

I wish I learnt go as a child but instead I was one of them lunch time chess kids. Im not hating on chess. Chess is super cool. Just I personally like go more.

And i know hands down if i saw this type of images when I was younger. I would have been all over go.

No real point to my post. Just love go. And hope people find new and interesting ways to get new players to join us in this amazing game.
