The Art Instructor is responsible for planning and leading creative art activities that promote self-expression, independence, skill development, and community inclusion for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). The instructor creates a positive, supportive, and engaging environment where individuals can explore various art mediums while developing confidence, communication, and fine motor skills.
Duties & Responsibilities
• Plan and facilitate daily art classes and creative projects for individuals of varying abilities.
• Adapt art activities to meet each individual's needs, interests, and abilities.
• Teach techniques using a variety of mediums including painting, drawing, ceramics, sculpture, mixed media, and seasonal crafts.
• Encourage creativity, independence, and personal choice during activities.
• Assist individuals with projects while promoting the highest level of independence possible.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and organized environment and ensure proper use of materials and equipment.
• Foster a respectful, inclusive, and encouraging atmosphere for all participants.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Knowledge of various artistic techniques and materials.
• Ability to encourage creativity without judgment.
• Ability to motivate and inspire individuals of all ability levels.
