Kaz update!

A CT, MRI, spinal tap, maxed out seizure drugs, two neurologists and many critical care vets later… We still don’t have a clear cause for the seizures and his ongoing vestibular symptoms, but he’s improving! All they know is it really hit his nervous system hard. We’re still waiting on the cultures that were sent off to a pathology lab… maybe something will show there. They’re not sure it’s epilepsy, because the MRI didn’t present the usual signs, and he didn’t respond to the drugs initially. Neurology said unless it’s an extremely rare presentation of a rare epilepsy, they’re not confident saying it’s that. He’s still on epilepsy meds daily for the foreseeable. Main thing is we have him home and he’s resting! 💛 love him so much.

Lab’s first seizure

Hey, everyone. I stumbled upon this forum yesterday when I was trying to find out more about my dog’s sudden seizures. Kaz is a 4 year old lab, and he had his first seizure on Sunday. He was asleep next to me and it woke me up. He came out of it quick but wasn’t right. The vet said it looks like he hasn’t fully came out of the seizure (weak legs, can’t walk in a straight line, doing figures of 8 with his head).

He was given some meds (Keppra) and this seemed to help for 12 hours and he stabilised to the point he was back to himself. Then he became disoriented again and we had to rush him into hospital this morning. They’ve given him a concoction of meds now, including ketamine, which finally helped and he’s been able to sleep. They’re now trying to figure out which med is stopping the seizures, and he’s in there overnight.

I just feel so helpless and confused, constantly asking “Why is this happening now, when he’s so young?”

Really hoping we have some good news tomorrow. Any stories or advice would be welcome.

Could this be a clot?

Hi everyone. I’m wondering if this sounds familiar to anybody. My mum complained yesterday about her left arm being very painful. I went to see her today and it’s incredibly swollen in the crook of her arm. There’s localised redness and the skin looks tight. She can’t press on it without extreme pain and it’s preventing her from sleeping. We rang the non-emergency line in the UK and they booked her an appointment for tomorrow morning, but I want to take her to A & E tonight. Should also mention that days prior to this she had a pain in her left lung. My mum is packing an overnight bag as I type this. I think we should go get checked out now but she doesn’t know.
