US OT looking for some help!
I am an OT working in acute hospital care and post acute rehabilitation in the US. My husbands mother is from the UK, however has been a US citizen about 30 years now and how not lived there since. My husbands grandfather has been having significant mobility problems for some time, and today he took a big fall and is now hospitalized with a likely brain injury. My MIL happened to be visiting at the time and is now having to navigate a health care system she is very unfamiliar with. He is very unsafe to go home and she are in the process of trying to find a care home. I am the only person in the family with any health care background and am trying to find a colleague to give me a crash course to help the family navigate this. Do subacute or inpatient rehabilitation units exist in the UK and if so what is the eligibility to be accepted? Do PT’s and OT’s have any say in discharge destinations as they do in the US?He has been unsafe at home for quite some time with several falls and they are worried something else will happen and he will just get weaker if he were to go straight home.
